In child focused mediation, the parents meet with a mediator, and the discussions of a parenting plan are focused on the best interests of the child, resources available to the parents (including the engagement of a child specialist) and the needs of the child as relayed by the parents. In child inclusive mediation, the parents meet with the mediator and have intake meetings with the child consultant. Then the child consultant meets with the child. Finally, there is a therapeutic discussion in mediation with the parents, child consultant and mediator to consider the child’s needs and experiences and agree upon a parenting plan.
